John Ogden was born in 1660 in Southampton on Long Island, a son of John Ogden and Judith Budd.

He removed with his parents to Stamford, Connecticut by 1666 and thereafter to Rye by 1672.

By 8 March 1682/83, he had occupied his father's former house lot and meadow (swamp) lot in Rye on the east side of Blind Brook (in present-day Rye Brook).

On 13 October 1683, John Ogden "of Rye" (b. 1660) received land in Rye from Robert Bloomer in exchange for a tract of land on the east side of Blind Brook (in present-day Rye Brook) which had been the property of John Ogden (1625–1682), via agreement of Francis Brown and his wife Judith (i.e. Judith Budd, widow of the former owner).

On 1 February 1685/86, John Ogden was bequeathed a "small gun" in the will of his stepfather, Francis Brown of Rye.

On 24 March 1687/88, John Ogden was appointed fence viewer for the Town of Rye for the ensuing year. A fence viewer was a town official who administered fence laws by inspecting new fences, resolving disputes about maintenance of division fences and settling disputes arising from trespass by livestock that have escaped enclosure.

In March 1693, John Ogden was sworn as a juror at the Court of Sessions held in Westchester, Westchester County (present-day Bronx County), New York.

On 12 May 1694 and 5 June 1694, John Ogden was a witness with Joseph Purdy at the Court of Sessions held in Westchester, Westchester County (present-day Bronx County), New York.

John Ogden married Susannah Dunscomb in 1694 in New York.

Father of eleven children.

Farmer in Rye, Westchester County, New York. He owned 3 acres of swampland near Gunn Brook in Rye (present-day Rye Brook) and extensive acreage along the west bank of the Byram River on Byram Ridge (present-day Port Chester).

John Ogden died in Rye, Westchester County, New York in 1717. His widow, Susannah Dunscomb, was remarried to Thomas Sutton before 21 April 1719 when she witnessed (as "Susannah Sutton") the sale of three parcels of land on the Byram River in Rye by her son, John Ogden, cooper of Rye, to his brother-in-law, Samuel Willson, carpenter of Rye (Town Records, volume three, pages 25–26). The land had been inherited by John Ogden (cooper) from his father John Ogden (farmer).
