Dorothy Vaughan Chamblee Barnett, age 81, passed away Monday morning, May 26, 2014 at the Senatobia Convalescent Center in Senatobia, MS.

Funeral services will be 3:00 O'clock P.M. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Batesville, MS with the family receiving friends prior to the service at 1:00 P.M. with interment to follow the service in Magnolia Cemetery. Dr. Tommy Snyder will be officiating the service.

Mrs. Barnett was born November 10, 1932 in Webster County, MS to the late Erin Ola and Beulah Sewell Vaughan. She had a very extensive and diverse career throughout the years. Mrs. Barnett was a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force with the Mississippi Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. Dorothy went on to work various jobs, including a purchasing clerk for a hardware company, public librarian, school teacher, employment clerk for the Mississippi State Employment Service, and as a senior office secretary for a newspaper publisher. She had many outside interests and volunteered her time for several meaningful organizations. These interest include, Worthy Matron for The Order of the Eastern Star, former president of the Clarksdale Woman's Club, state secretary and scholarship committee of the Mississippi Homemaker's Volunteers, president of the Tri-Lakes Hospital Auxiliary and supervisor of Tri-Lakes Hospital Blood Drives. In 1998 she was awarded as the second place winner for her volunteer services in Panola County. While living in Clarksdale, MS, she was awarded Clarksdale's Woman of the Year.

Most of all, Dorothy loved her church, family, Sunday School classes and her Senior Adult Choir. She enjoyed cooking for large family gatherings, and loved making flower arrangements for her family members and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bobby Barnett of Batesville, MS; two sons, Bilbo Chamblee, Jr. (Cobra) of Horn Lake, MS, Stan Chamblee (Stephanie) of Madison, MS; sister, Dora Davis (William) of Carrolton, MS; brother, Bill "Sonny" Vaughan (Barbara) of Greenwood, MS; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family requested that anyone wishing to send memorial contributions to forward those to the First Baptist Church, 104 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS 38606.
