Samuel was the son of Amos Beldon and Lydia Weaver, who married in February of 1836 in Wayne County, Ohio. He had two sisters, four brothers, a half-brother and a half-sister. The other children of Amos and Lydia Beldon were Mariah (b.1836), David (b.1840), John (1843-1849), Jesse (1845-1851), and Mary A. (b.1846). I found the family on the 1850 Census, living in Liberty, Van Wert Co., Ohio, where Amos, aged 36, was farming for a living. Lydia, aged 38, was home with their four children—Mariah, aged 14, Samuel, aged 13, David, aged 10, and Mary, aged 4. It is unclear where Jesse was that year as he was born in 1845 and lived until 1851.

Six years after that census, Samuel's mother Lydia died in 1856 at age 44. Samuel's father married the following year on 8 Oct 1857, exchanging vows with Mary Magdalene "Polly" Mihm in Van Wert County. Samuel's two half-siblings, Amos (b.1858) and Lovina (b./d. 1868), were children from that union.

Two years after his father remarried, Samuel also wed, walking down the aisle with Emma Cecil on 17 Mar 1859 in Van Wert County. They had four children together—son Jesse F. (b.1861), son Wert A. (b.1861), daughter Minnie S. (b.1869), and daughter Tyrone M. (b.1881). Samuel, aged 22, and Emma, aged 21, appeared together on the 1860 Census, living in Liberty, Van Wert County, where Samuel was busy farming.

I looked for Samuel, Emma, Jesse, Wert and Minnie on the 1870 Census. I did find a record for a Samuel Beldon , married, aged 31, born in Ohio, working on the railroad in Douglas, Colorado Territory that census year. Only male workers were listed on the record and seemed to be living in a camp of some sort. I checked the 1870 records for both Liberty Township and Willshire Township, Van Wert County for Emma and the children with no luck.

The family popped back up on the 1880 Census, living in Willshire Township, Van Wert County. Samuel, aged 41, was a retail dry goods grocer. Emma, aged 30, was home with Wert, aged 18, and Minnie, aged 11. Son Jesse had married Florence Shaffer on 2 Oct 1879 in Van Wert County, and they were living on the adjacent farm in 1880. Daughter Tyrone joined the family a year later on 22 May 1881 while they were still living in Van Wert County.

In that twenty-year interim between the 1880 and the 1900 Census, son Wert first married Mary R. Dull on 12 Jan 1882 in Van Wert County. His second marriage was to Flora Glingle on 25 Sep 1890 in Marshall County, Indiana, and his third marriage was to Lamanda M. Taylor on 18 Jun 1893 in Kosciusko County, Indiana.

Plymouth, West Township, Marshall County, Indiana was where I found Samuel and Emma in 1900. Samuel, aged 62, was still actively farming. Emma, aged 61, reported that she had had four children and that all four had survived to that census. The only child still at home was Tyrone, aged 19, and she married later that same year on 7 Nov 1900, exchanging vows with David Edward Elick in Marshall County. I found a possible marriage record for daughter Minnie, assuming that Minnie was a nickname and that her real name was Lydia, after her paternal grandmother. It was to Lemuel Purdy on 22 Jan 1885 in Van Wert County. It is a best guess for what happened to her after 1880.

On 17 Mar 1909, Samuel and Emma celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

In 1910, the family was living in Plymouth's Center Township. Samuel, aged 72, had retired. Emma, aged 71, again reported that all four of her children were still alive. Son Jesse was living in Polk Township, Marshall County, and gave general merchandise as his occupation. He and wife Florence had welcomed five children to their family—Nellie (b.1882), Carrie A. (b.1883), Ralph B. (b.1887), Vera C. (b.1897), and Ruth B. (b.1899). Daughter Tyrone was in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois in both 1910 and 1920. Her husband Edward, was earning a living as a credit man in a piano house. There were no children with them. Son Meredith Edward would not join the family until 18 Dec 1917.

When the 1920 Census was enumerated, Samuel, aged 81, and Emma, aged 80, were still living in Plymouth. Their nest was empty. Son Jesse had moved to Ashtabula County, Ohio and was farming. Son Wert was living and farming in Chandler, Adams Co., North Dakota. With him were third wife Lamanda and son Claude W., aged 22. Daughter Tyrone, aged 38, was still living in Chicago with husband Edward and son Meredith.

Samuel died two years later in 1922. After mourning his death, Emma would have to also bear the loss of daughter Tyrone, who died on 25 Jan 1927 at age 45. Emma appeared on the 1930 Census, widowed, aged 91, living in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana with son Wert, his third wife Lamanda, and their son Claude, aged 33. Wert, aged 68, was working as a laborer in farm equipment. Lamanda, aged 67, was keeping house. Claude was working as a salesman for a furnace company.

Emma died three years after that census in 1933 at age 94, and was laid to rest next to her husband of 63 years.
