Obituary
Charles Lange Gambel, Jr. died peacefully at the age of 77 after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellen Lee Roe Gambel of Mobile, Alabama; his daughters Ellen Lorraine Gambel Hall, Dorothy Virginia Gambel Ellis (Michael), Julie Roe Gambel McGoldrick (Tim); his sons Charles Lange Gambel, III (Molly), Gary Joseph Gambel (Layne), Patrick Martin Gambel (Grace), and Steven Shaun Gambel (Vanessa); 24 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his sister Ellen G. Simon; his brothers Raymond H. Gambel and Greg F. Gambel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Lange Gambel and Lorraine Nalty Gambel, and his brother William C. Gambel.
Mr. Gambel graduated from Jesuit High School in 1955, and Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL in 1959. He was a member of the Color Guard US Army at Spring Hill College. He was First Lieutenant in the US Army and served at the Air Defense Center at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was an air conditioning contractor for many years.
Mr. Gambel had been active in the community for many years serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for 2 terms at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, on the President's Advisory Board at Jesuit High School and served as President of the Spring Hill Parents Association. Mr. Gambel was a founding member of ACRDA and a life member of ASHRAE. He served on the board of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater New Orleans, as President of the Board of the Better Business Bureau of New Orleans, and was a board member of the Cenacle Retreat House and the Parish Council of St Catherine of Siena Parish. Mr. Gambel was also a member of the Southern Yacht Club, the New Orleans Country Club and several carnival organizations.
Funeral Mass on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 1:00 pm at St. Francis Xavier Church, 444 Metairie Road.
