Mrs. Clara Mae Crapse Mason, 92 of 434 Main Street in Varnville died Friday afternoon at her residence after an extended illness.

Mrs. Mason was born in Hampton County November 14, 1921 a daughter of the late Brooks and Ione Murdaugh Crapse.

She had retired as Post Mistress of the Varnville Post Office after 42 years of service. She was a very active member of the Varnville Christian Church where she served on the Church Board, was a Sunday School Teacher and was active with the WMU. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Jahab Honeys at the Jahab Shrine Club.

She was the widow of Lester Joel Mason.

Surviving are: grandchildren, Cathy Bairfoot and Linsey Murdaugh of Varnville; sisters: Vernelle C. Gibson of Hampton and Martha C. Forrester of Summerville. There are 5 great grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Beverly Joyce Murdaugh; Grand Daughter, Dana Rivers; Brothers, Murdaugh and Marvin Crapse; and sisters, Lillian McGraw and Mazie Long.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Mike Freeman, with burial in the Varnville Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday beginning at 12 Noon prior to the service.

The family suggests that memorials in her name may be made to the Varnville Christian Church, 201 Sycamore St. Varnville, SC 29944.
