Craig "Butch" Atkinson passed away on October 13, 1998. He was 50.

Craig was best known as the drummer with the popular 60s rock band The Count Five, who had the top ten song "Psychotic Reaction" in 1966. He also worked as a session drummer on other artist's recordings.

Following his time with The Count Five, Craig would go on to attend San Jose State University. After graduating, Atkinson joined the United States Navy and became a pilot, flying P-3C Orion aircraft with Patrol Squadron 9 out of Naval Air Station Moffett Field in Mountain View, California. Following his stint with the Navy, he became a pilot for Delta Air Lines.

In more recent years, Craig reunited several times with original members of The Count Five for the occasional concert.

He died October 13, 1998 of complications from a surgical procedure.
