*** Special note: The picture to the left is of Robert Mitchell Burleson (1851 - 1894) per office manager of the Avery County Historical Museum in Newland, N.C. Robert Mitchell Burleson is the great-great grandson of Aaron Burleson who was born in 1712. No known portrait exists of Aaron Burleson himself at this time.

There is also 2 other birthdates for Aaron which are 1722 or 1727.
Aaron was the first Burleson to the Southern area of America.

Aaron John Burleson was a close friend of Daniel Boone per North Carolina historians claiming friendship with Daniel Boone. This friendship is in dispute.

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion to this Burleson family. Many contradictions. Everyone has their theory and everyone thinks they are right. Who knows which is the correct information. Many people have disputed all the information regarding this family that are in articles of which I have listed in my bio.

He married Rachel Hendricks born ca 1730 and died ca 1783 in Rutherford, County, NC (Rachel's maiden name has not been verified?).

They had 13 children. Per Aaron's will dated May of 1782 in Sullivan County, NC. Children are: John (married Abigail Adair and 2nd marriage to Mary Hodges), Joseph (married Nancy Gage), Jonathon (married Margaret Pullman), Elizabeth, Thomas (married Margaret Greene), Sarah, Aaron II (married Volley Hogan) killed in 1785 by Indians, Rachel, Nancy, Abigail (1772-1865)(married Reuben Gage), Mary (est. 1780)was scalped by Indians in Tenn. but survived (married David Allard), Rhoda (married a Gage) and James who married his cousin Elizabeth Shipman, and next married Mary Christian. Above information is from the Heritage of the Toe River Valley (Vol.1) 1994

In 1782 Aaron left to visit his good friend, Daniel Boone(who lived a few days walk from the Burleson home) who lived in Kentucky. Aaron was ambushed and killed by Cherokee Indians while crossing the Clinch (Clynch) River per Tenn. historians. Aaron had many arrows in him and he had been scalped. There are disputes as to the exact year he died. N.C. historians claim Aaron was killed by Cherokee Indians while on the Cane Creek.
