MR, JOSEPH TREADWELL
The death took place at his daughter's residence, Wellsford, last Friday of Mr Joseph Treadwell, at the age of 95. Mr Treadwell was the oldest surviving member of the early pioneers of the Wellsford district, and had lived in the Wellsford-district for about 70 years. He came from Berkshire, England, as a young man, and was engaged as a blacksmith and wheelwright on his arrival in the district, and continued at his trade until only a few years ago, and up to quite recently was regularly seen in the street at Wellsford. He was well known throughout North Auckland for the excellent quality of his work, and there are many farm wagons, konakis, etc, still in use that he made many years ago. His business is still carried on by his son and part of the original workshop is still in use. Mr Treadwell, who was married twice, leaves 3 sons and 7 daughters to mourn his loss, and there are a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, His daughters are Mrs A. Legge, Port Albert Mrs F. Palmer, Wellsford; Mrs G. Harris, Silverdale; Mrs Harwood, Te Awamutu; Mrs Paterson. Ngongotaha Mrs Matheson, Rotorua and Mrs Brown, Ruawai while his 3. sons are Mr J. Treadwell, Taipuha; Mr Percy Treadwell, Port Albert; and Mr Frank Treadwell, Wellsford. Mr Treadwell was buried in the Wellsford Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the service being conducted by the Rev. F. Hart, of Warkworth.
