He was born April 26, 1924 in Augusta Springs, Virginia, the son of the late John Brandy and Florence Fridley Goff.
He was employed with General Electric in Waynesboro as a supervisor in the Relay Department until his retirement.
He was a US Army combat veteran of WWII. He was a corporal landing on Omaha Beach the second day of the invasion of Normandy, earning numerous ribbons and citations. .
He was a member of Augusta Springs United Methodist Church; a graduate of Craigsville High School Class of 1942; a charter member of the Augusta Springs First Aid Crew; past president of the Augusta Springs Fire Department; Treasurer of the former Craigsville Moose Lodge; and a member of the Craigsville VFW. He was a big fan of the New York Yankees and Nascar drivers Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He loved his cat, Baby.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Gaugler Goff of Craigsville; two children, Harvey Goff, Jr. & wife Krystal and Sandra Goff all of Staunton, Virginia; Step Children, Paige Blakely of New Smyrna, Florida, Paul Blakely of Hyattsville, Maryland and Karolyn Colvin of Verona, Virginia; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.; special friend Jeff Lasher of Staunton, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Beulah Corbin, Daisy Bazzrea, Bessie Harlow and Lorraine Sprouse; and 3 brothers, Glenwood, John and Billy Goff.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Craigsville Funeral Home with Pastors Tyler Clem and Michael Herring officiating. Interment will be in Craigsville Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Matthew and Josh Goff, friends, Fred Stephenson, Jr., Anthony Stephenson, Lewis Corbin, Steve Smiley, Gene Wallace and J.P. Fridley. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.
