Leslie James "Les" Gregory, 38, of Gaffney, SC, died Wednesday, February 26, 1997, at home.

A native of Spartanburg, he was the son of James J. and Virginia (Bright) Gregory of Spartanburg.

A member of Hayne Baptist Church, he attended the First Baptist Church of Gaffney.

He was head athletic trainer for Gaffney High School and an employee of Physical Therapy Inc.

He received the Order of Palmetto in 1996, was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Limestone College in 1997 and received the Super Saint Award at Limestone College in 1992. He was a former counselor at McCalls RA Camp. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the S.C. Peach Festival, March of Dimes Committee, COPE Committee and Wachovia Run for the Peaches Committee. He was a former assistant dean of students at Limestone College and trainer for the U.S. Men's Olympic Gymnastic Team while they were in Spartanburg. He was a member of the S.C. Athletic Trainers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Also surviving are his wife, Debbie (Mulligan) Gregory, and one sister, Jennie Lynn Dobson of Greer.

The family received friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 1997 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 1997 in the First Baptist Church of Gaffney, conducted by the Revs. Scott Hammett and Joel Sellers. Burial was in Floyd Greenlawn Cemetery. The body was placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.

Memorials could be made to McCall Royal Ambassador Camp, 108 Ambassador Road, Sunset, 29685; Limestone College Saints Club, 1115 College Drive, Gaffney, 29340 or Gaffney High School, Athletic Booster Club, P.O. Box 1273, Gaffney, 29342.
