Dear mother, brothers, and sister, and sisters-inlaw. I leave taken pen to inform you we are all well at present except John. He has had a bad cough and has for some time and we do not know how it will terminate but I hope these line may find you all healthy and happy. We live within a quarter of a mile of Woodsfield. We like the place very well. We have very good neighbors and we are doing very well well for the chance we have had. We have a very good crop of corn. Our wheat did not turn out very well. The 2 little boys is growing big and going to school. I should like to see you all. I want to hear from you all write and let us know wether any of our relatives is married or dead. Write soon, we want to hear from your mother and other relatives. If mother and myself is alive next fall I intend to go and see her. Give my best respects to all inquiring friends. Boing sends his love and compliments Marget Hicksenbaugh.
Write to us as soon as you receive this. We want to hear from you very much. We are living in the land of strangers but I hope the Lord will protect us when ever we go we are going to move to a very pretty place.
In the spring we have got twelve acres of wheat sowen. I never want to back to Pennsylvania to raise my children. We are living in a very religious settlement where there is different denominations. Say no more at present but our love to you all. Direct your letter to Woodsfield, Monroe County, Ohio. Let John (illedgable) see this letter. Say no more but the Lord bless you all is the wish of your Daughter Barbara Hicksenbaugh and your son John Hicksenbaugh.

Barbara Estle first married John Hixenbaugh in Greene County, Pa. and after John Hixenbaugh died in 1846, Barbara remarried Abraham Jackson in 1853.
