DONALD SATTERFIELD

Donald Devoy Satterfield, 77, resident of 305 Farmdale Rd., husband of Marian Haltiwanger Satterfield, died May 14, 2014 at his home.

Born in Woodruff, March 20, 1937, he was a son of the late Rev. D. W. and Annie Lou Black Satterfield.

Donald was a graduate of Newberry College. He began his teaching career in the Newberry County School System in Pomaria in the early 1960's and was retired from John De La Howe School where he was a teacher and activities director for 25 years. After retirement he began working at the Burton Center in Ware Shoals. Mr. Satterfield served in SC National Guard from February 1960 until February 1966.

He was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Kim Satterfield of the home and her fiancé Ray Fant of Boiling Springs; two sons, Keith Satterfield of Greenwood and Chris (Mandy) Satterfield of Powdersville; two brothers, James (Betty) Satterfield of Columbia and Jack (Faye) Satterfield of Simpsonville; one grandchild; his two Yorkies, Taffy & Prissy, who were by his side when he passed away.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM Saturday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cindy Thorpe and Rev. Chuck Sprouse officiating.

Entombment will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Erskine, Wendell Hughes, Carroll Bledsoe, James McKee, Trent Roark, Ronnie Davis and Everett Parker.

Honorary escort will be Bill and Barbara Vieth, Larry and LeVelle Shepherd, Janice Clinkscales, Evelyn Parker, Dr. Greg McLoughlin, John Hughes, Kris Brewer, staff of Self Regional Cancer Center and the staff of Hospice Care of the Piedmont.

The family is at the home on Farmdale Road and will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Friday evening.
