Mary's surname?
Abner Cox, Sr. married a woman named Mary. Very little is known of her except that she died Dec 23, 1828 (sic, probably September) at 88 years of age or born about 1740. (34)
Mary's surname might have been Livingston. (67) That is wrong. NOT Mary Livingston. In 1820 census of Essex County, Virginia, Mary Livingston Cox lived there and son Abner Cox lived there too. It is in Family Search and it is not our family. Other than the fact there was another Abner Cox I have seen no proof this is our family, just can not be in two places at once. (39) See where our Abner was in 1820 below.
As you search for these "lost" records, be careful to keep Abner and Mary Livingston Cox of Essex County in Eastern Virginia separate. Although their names and dates are similar, our relatives they are not. (Source 36 "Cox Chronicles" by Joan Cox Davis, 2003)
Logan County, Ohio tax records show that Abner Cox paid taxes on 80 acres of land in survey 3341 from 1818 through 1827. (Logan County was broken off from Champaign County in 1818) (34) Abner Cox appears as a tax payer in survey 3441 for 80 acres 1818 to 1825. Since the land was purchased in 1820 perhaps he had some kind of land contract and paid the taxes prior to the actual purchase. (39)
September 9, 1820 Abner Cox Sr. buys 81 acres for $202.50. (39)
1820 Census of Jefferson Township, Logan County, Ohio, has:
Abner Cox 020001 00001
Nicholas Stillwell 120101 10010 (1)
I believe the 1820 Census was taken in 1821. It seems that the two children in Abner Cox household are the children of deceased son Abner Cox Jr. (39)
1820 Poll Book, Jefferson Township, Logan County, Ohio, lists Abner Cox and Joseph Cox. (37)
