Roger D. Hamel of Birchwood Drive in East Taunton died Jun 09, 2007 at Lifecare of Raynham following a lengthy illness. He was 80. He was the husband of Evelyn (Fasciolo) Hamel. Born in Auburn, Maine, he was the son of the late Marjorique and Yvonne (Gagne) Hamel. He was educated in Maine Schools. He lived in Middleboro prior to moving to Taunton in 1975. Mr. Hamel was a veteran serving during World War II as a member of the US Navy. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church in East Taunton. He worked as a plater for Foxboro Company in East Bridgewater. Prior to that, he was employed at Plymouth Shoe Company.
Mr. Hamel was a former member of the Middleboro Elks. He enjoyed fishing, animals and gardening and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Elvira Motta of Taunton; his daughters, Jeanne Julian and husband Aaron of California, Jeannette Pitts and husband Bruce of West Wareham, Sandra Seekell of Taunton, and Jane Remedis and companion Joseph of Taunton; his sons, Raymond Hamel and wife Frances of Lakeville, Mark Seekell of Taunton and John Seekell and wife Laurie of Conway, NH; a sister, Noella "Connie" Campanelli of Connecticut; a brother, Roland Hamel of Lewiston, Maine; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his loving nephew, Richard Ducasse; and also several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Peter Seekell and the brother of the late Carmen Stulpin.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday Jun 13, 2007 at the O'Keefe-Wade Funeral Home. It will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church in East Taunton at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Taunton. Donations in Roger's memory may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, Memphis, TN
