On April 30, 2014, Daniel Lee Dowd passed away peacefully from complications after fighting his battle with cancer.


He was born on Aug. 18, 1948, to James and Ruth Dowd (Hendricks) in Topeka, Kan. He was raised in Broomfield, Colo., and loved the outdoors.

In 1970, he married Linda Sheridan (Hoerner) and in 1974, they moved to Montana. In 1979, they adopted a baby girl through Catholic Social Services whom they named Callie.

Danny loved the outdoors and, after working for many years at Plum Creek, started guiding in the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, James Dowd and Ruth Hendricks.

Survivors include his brother, Randy Dowd, of Colorado; his sister, Cherie, and husband Bob Arends; his daughter, Callie Scheeler; his niece and nephew, Kady and Kaleb Arends; his grandchildren, Dauglas, Eli and Megan Scheeler, his roommate, Charlie Alexander; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A potluck celebration of life will be held for Danny at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, at the Arends house. The address is 514 Kokanee Circle in Columbia Falls. (Bring your own drinks.)
Ashes will be spread at a later date in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, as this was Danny's last wish.
