He was a talented cartoonist and had been approached by Norman Rockwell, who had seen several examples of Hi's work. Mr. Rockwell offered Hi a job working for him as a cartoonist. However, Hi had just recently started a new job at the tissue mill and declined the offer.
Survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Kinney Green; numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by four brothers, James Jr., Francis Joseph, Theodore, and Charles Green, and by four sisters, Margarita Valentine, Irene and Katherine Green, and Josephine King.
