Surgical Aid Did Not Prevent Death

Mrs. Ann Davis Recovered From Operation, But Could Not Live

After suffering for several months from cancer of the stomach, Mrs. Ann Davis, wife of Ned Davis, care-taker of the city park and court house grounds, died at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday evening at her home, 227 Court street, the upper part of the house occupied by Mr. Barnes and family.
Mrs. Davis was taken to the Elyria Memorial Hospital for an operation about three months ago. She recovered from the ordeal and, after remaining there for eight weeks, was removed to her home. She knew that she had not much longer to live and she wished to die in her own home. She was 61 years of age.
Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by two children; Benjamin Francis, East River street, proprietor of an east side grocery, and Mrs. Hornung.
The funeral services wll be held at 8:30 o'clock tomorrow morning, at St. Mary church.

Mrs. Edward Davis died at her home on Court street, Wednesday evening at 9:30 after a long and painful illness. She underwent an operation at Elyria Memorial Hospital, hoping to receive benefit but was only relieved for a short time. Mrs. Davis has been a resident of Lorain County all but a few years of her life. She was born in Wisconsin, December 17, 1849 and came to Elyria in 1854. She was married to Henry Francis, September 26, 1867. To them were born three children-George M. Francis, of Wabasha, Minn; B.A. Francis and Mrs. Lucy Harning, of this city. She was left a widow in 1873. In 1896 she was married to Edward Davis who still survives her. Mrs. Davis was one of a family of eleven children, two of whom are still living. Mrs. Fred Lambert, of Elyria and Myron T. Hollis of Janesville, Wisc. The funeral took place Saturday morning at 9:30 at St. Mary's church.
