James Lewis Ingles, 78, of Roanoke, died Monday, August 8, 1994. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, a native of Montgomery County, a graduate of VPI School of Mechanical Engineering, and served during Word War II and was discharged as a Lt. Col. He was a former sandlot and little league coach. He was the son of the late James Lewis Ingles and Gertrude Venable Ingles. Surviving are his wife, Sophie Anne Chapman Ingles, Roanoke; son, Lewis Chapman Ingles and his wife, Marjorie, Gap, Pa.; grandson, Benjamin Lewis Ingles and granddaughter, Elizabeth Chapman Ingles, both of Gap; nephew, Col. Lewis Ingles Jeffries, Radford. Graveside services will be conducted at East Hill Cemetery, Salem 11:15 a.m. Thursday. A memorial service will be conducted in St. John's Episcopal Church Roanoke at 12 noon on Thursday. The Rev . Thomas O'Dell will officiate. The family will receive friends in the chapel of St. John's Episcopal Church from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday. The family suggests memorials be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or VPI & SU Scholarship Fund. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
