Josephine (Teply) Barta was born in Czechoslovakia on May 23, 1869. She came to America as young girl with her widowed mother and sister directly to Yankton.

On July 17, 1886, she was united in marriage to Frank Barta and lived on a farm near Utica, S.D. until 1910. The family moved to their farm northwest of Dante in 1910 where they lived until 1923 when they moved to Tabor where they lived until 1926. They moved to Lesterville where her husband died in 1935. She passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 1950, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 4 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sons: Frank, Emil and John and daughter, Barbara. She is survived by daughters: Mary (Mrs. Joseph Halasek) of Omaha; Helen (Mrs. Wm. Koupal) of Vermillion; sons: Sylvester of Meckling; Wesley of Omaha; and half-brother, Jos. F. Behensky of Wakonda; 23 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and one sister Mrs. Frank Cap of Yankton.
