Myrtle Jackson Baxter Cary passed away peacefully December 9, 2006, at Brighton Gardens. She was 93 years old and had lived a long and good life.

An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at First Presbyterian Church Chapel. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens. The Rev. Peggy Matthews will officiate. Family will receive friends one hour prior in the Blair Hagan Room.

She was preceded in death by her first husband George Baxter to whom she was married for 42 years and her second husband George Cary to whom she was married for 14 years. She had an identical twin sister, Myrtis, who died at age 20.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was active in a seniors group.

She loved all sorts of knitting, crocheting and crafts and enjoyed making numerous items for the seniors group which were donated to charity.

She was an avid golfer and continued to enjoy tournaments on television even when she could no longer play.

She is survived by a daughter Sue Baxter Leonard and her husband Henry Leroy Heybrock; two step children, Catherine Cary Rankin and husband Dick Rankin and Richard Cary; a sister Helen Burns of Essex, Md.; three grandchildren, Linda Sue Leonard and husband Steven Kozey, Colvin Theodore Leonard III and wife Donna Leonard, Robert Baxter Leonard and wife Ann Rucker Leonard; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher and Patrick Kozey and Kaelin and McKenzie Leonard; two nephews, Jack Garner and David Burns; and a niece Barbara McCoy.

The family would like to thank Brighton Gardens for their kind and loving care. Also Hospice, who made her last days better ones.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 617 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401 or to the Greensboro Beautiful, 501 Yanceyville Street, Greensboro, NC 27405.
