Rosemary was born on June 17, 1922, in Three Oaks, the daughter of Mellen and Isabelle (Froebel) Kramer. She graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1940 and was employed by the Bank of Three Oaks. On April 5, 1942, she married Milburn (Mick) Heckathorn, who preceded her in death. They lived their entire married life in Three Oaks, raising their children and operating their store, Downtown Drugs, which they owned from June 1954 until June 1984.
Rosemary was involved in various community activities. She was an active member of St John United Church of Christ in Three Oaks, where she sang in the choir and played the piano or organ whenever needed. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 239 and was a volunteer for the Berrien County Cancer Service for many years. Rosemary enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of Chikaming Country Club. She was a skilled seamstress and truly enjoyed sewing clothing for many family members. She enjoyed playing bridge and getting together with other friends to play music. Rosemary continued many of these activities in Florida where she wintered prior to making Florida her permanent home. She relocated to Florida five years ago and made her home with her daughter and son-in-law. Rosemary traveled to many places in the world but was always ready to return to her home and family, family was the center of her life. Rosemary was able to spend time with her children, their spouses, grand children, their spouses and her six great grandchildren just weeks before her death, they feel blessed they had this time with her.
Rosemary is survived by her son, Mike (Donna) Heckathorn of Harbert, Michigan; daughter Lynda (Rick) Whitfield of Hobe Sound; grandchildren Jason (Cathy) Heckathorn of Three Oaks, and Justin (Kristine) Heckathorn of Grand Rapids, Michigan; great grandchildren Kendall, Carson, Devon, Natalyn, Joslyn and Micah.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Mick, on June 20, 1984; granddaughter Ashley Carroll on June 22, 1989; brothers Dave Kramer, Paul Kramer, and Richard Kramer.
A celebration of Rosemary's life will take place at 4:00 pm on June 17, 2014 at St. John United Church of Christ, 10 West Ash St, Three Oaks. Internment of her ashes will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Three Oaks. Visitation with the family is scheduled from 3:00-3:45 on June 17, 2014 at the church.
