Mrs. Francis, who resided at the corner of Elm and University avenue, had lived here over 30 years. She was the widow of C. H. Francis, former nightwatchman and Sterling Lumber employe, who died about six years ago. She leaves two sons, Walter Francis, living at Felton, and Fred Francis, living at Santa Cruz. Her mother, who is 96 years old, lives in Texas.
Mrs. Francis was walking toward Main street, between the rails of the track. Hearing the whistle, she jumped, but not quickly enough. D. R. P. Gober, who was summoned at once, reported that death was instantaneous, there being a compound fracture of the skull. Her right foot was severed, but otherwise her body was not mutilated by the train. The accident, some believe, was due indirectly to city regulations against whistle blowing by the train.
The accident occurred near the spot of a similar fatal accident last year.
