Alfred Lee Smith, 69, of Maitland died Frida night, Feb. 29, in a St. Joseph hospital. He was a retired mechanic and had served on the Maitland City Council.

The son of the late Jacob and Elnora Varner Smith, he was born March 23, 1910, at Skidmore and was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church.

On March 22, 1954, he was married in California to Grace Louise Wilson. They returned to Maitland in 1971.

His is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Smith, one son, Richard Doty, Norwalk, Calif., four daughters, Dorothy Beyer, Wichita, Kan., Barbara Quin, Sherman Oaks, Calif., Joan Tull, Walnut, Calif., and Norma Lee Donovan, Cerritos, Calif.; three brothers, Vincent Smith, St. Joseph, Lester Smith, Higbee, Mo., and Clarence Smith, Huntington Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Edna Stephens and Hazel Froyd, both of Maryville, and Bertha Kenney, Onaga, Kan.; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Monday, March 3, at 2 p.m. in the Maitland Christian Church. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, MO.
