Our dear sweet grandmother, Vivian Duncan, 103, of Glenwood Place, Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014, with her loving family by her side. She would have celebrated her 104th birthday on April 7, 2014.

A celebration of life for Vivian will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, at Central Christian Church with Pastor Loren Strait officiating.

Vivian Mae Foster was born on April 7, 1910, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the daughter of Frank and Effie (Siefken) Foster. She was raised and educated in the Marshalltown school district, graduating from Marshalltown High School. Vivian owned and operated Phillips Grocery Store in the historic 13th Street business district of Marshalltown for many years. She also worked at the Evangelical Hospital in the business office until her retirement. Vivian had a passion for gardening, camping, fishing, and cooking, but most of all for her grandchildren. On Vivian's 100th birthday she was blessed with the birth of her sixth great great grandchild, Anthony Mitchell, son of Elizabeth and Michael Mitchell.

Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Patricia Thompson, John (Penny) Phillips, Carolyn Phillips, Edward (Renee) Phillips, Robert (Sheryl) Phillips, and David (Stephanie) Phillips; great grandchildren: Matt (Erin) Thompson, Laurie (Cody) Bergener, Elizabeth (Michael) Mitchell, Lindsay (John) Gilbert, Whitney (Brandon) Baker, Nathan Phillips, Jillisa Jorgensen, Vanessa Jorgensen, Amanda Mae Phillips, Lincoln Phillips, and Kate Phillips; great-great grandchildren: Natalie Thompson, Aiden Thompson, Aubrey Thompson, Colton Bergener, Calla Bergener, Anthony Mitchell, Annelise Mitchell, John "Jack" Gilbert, Julia Gilbert, and Jenna Gilbert, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: William Phillips and Leo Duncan; two sons: Richard and William Phillips; one grandson: Willard Phillips; one brother: Orville (Bud) Foster, and three sisters: Genevieve Foster, Mabel Galloway, and Marjorie Martinson.

Funeral services for Vivian Duncan, 103, of Marshalltown, were held at Central Christian Church with Pastor Loren Strait officiating. Guests were present from Central Christian Church, Iowa River Hospice, and Glenwood Place. Vivian was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
