Funeral services were held Sunday in the South Ward Chapel at Monroe for Orson Pratt Washburn, 75, 2ho died Wednesday evening, May 6, in a Salt Lake Hospital, following an operation.

Bishop Heber Winget conducted the services. Speakers Elijah Jensen and W.O. Lundgreen of Monroe and Irvin L. Warnock of Sigurd. Musical numbers were three selections, "Rest for the Weary Soul", "Shall We Meet", and "My Father Knows", by the South ward choir directed by Thomas Ransom; a vocal solo, "A Perfect Day", by Mrs. Wells Nielsen, accompanied by Miss Carol Hunt, and a violin solo, "Vale", by Max Larsen. The invocation was by A.L. Anderson; the benediction by Wilford Hansen, Heber Swindle dedicated the grave, interment being in the Monroe cemetery.

Pallbearers were members of the seventies quorum of the ward, Marion Brown, Dan Washburn, Deleal Yergensen, Goold Madsen, and John Magelby.

Many friend and relatives attended the services. The floral offerings were beautiful.

Orson Pratt Washburn was born at Manti, March 7, 1862. He moved to Monroe in 1872 with his parents and identified himself with all the early developments of Monroe. He was the first man to hold a plow in the building of the Monroe South Bend canal, and he assisted in building many roads. He made brick and quarried rock for civic affairs as a member of the Monroe Town Board. He served in many church capacities. He was sent to the southern states mission in 1899 and remained there until released on account of illness. He was later a president of the Monroe ward Y.M.M.I.A for several years; was a Sunday school teacher for many years, and was a member and chairman of the old folks committee.

Mr. Washburn specialized in importing, breeding and raising fine farm livestock at his farm in Monroe for several years. His pure bred Bershire and Poland China hogs and his registered Shires, Suffolks and Percheron, Belgian and French draft horses imported form Europe were outstanding in quality and breeding among livestock on the farms and at fairs in this section. His livestock always won blue ribbons at the Sevier County and Utah State fairs. These animals were always his pride and he took interest in showing them to anyone. He was also a fancier and breeder of standard bred horses.

Mr. Washburn was fond of his home and family. He married Zina Higgs in 1880 in the old endowment house in Salt Lake. Three sons, Orson Wallace, Abraham and Thomas were born to them. In 1885 the mother died, leaving one son, who was raised by his stepmother, Mary Ellen Thueson, whom Mr. Washburn married November 28, 1889, in the Manti Temple. Twelve children were born to them, en of whom are living. His wife and the following children survive: Miss Mary Josie Washburn, Monroe, Mrs. Chloe Jensen, Richfield; Newell Washburn, Pasadena, California; Garald, Wallace D., and J. Deleal Washburn, Monore; Mrs. Velma Jacobson, Logan; Mrs. Delilah Staples, Central; Mrs. Zina Bird, Sevier; and Mrs. Eva Coleman, Teasdale. 43 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Loraine E. Larsen of Provo, survive.

Among the relatives who came to attend the funeral were Mrs. Lorena Larsen of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Howes, Wanda and Bessie Jensen of Marysvle, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Howes of Circleville, Mrs. Eva Coleman and family of Teasdale, Mrs. Pearl Bartholomew of Springville, Floy and Glen Turner of Provo, Mrs. Velma Jacobson and children of Logan, Mrs. Fern Miller of Fayette, and Newell Washburn of Pasadena. California.
