A native of Minden, La.,Mr. Swan was born to James and Jewel Swan. He grew up in Minden, graduated from Webster High School and attended Grambling State University.
He met the love of his life, the former Gwendolyn Thomas, in their sixth grade band class. They married July 5, 1969 and moved to Shreveport in 1973. They had three children and an adopted a daughter.
He honorably served his country as an army private in the Vietnam War. He made his career at KCS Railroad where he worked for almost 30 years as a brakeman, conductor and engineer.
He was known and loved for his quick wit and infectious laughter. He had many friends and enjoyed good music, movies and tinkering with computers and electronic equipment. He also spent a lot of his free time bargain shopping with his wife.
His faith in Jesus Christ shone brightly in his latter years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn; sons, James “Rolawyn” Swan and wife Stephanie, Roovelroe Swan and wife Laura; daughters, Rosavalisa Swan and Sherry Fuller and husband Clinton; grandchildren, Bryndon, Jordan, Christopher, Julian, Michelle, Roovelroe Jr., Maiya, Eric, Shamanique, Seanteria and Jerrick; brothers, John L. Maeshack and J.D. Swain; best friend, Robert Wright; and a host of relatives and friends.
