H.W. "Dutch" McCright,77, of Center Point, died Thursday morning in his home. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, United Methodist Church, Walker. Burial: Walker Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home, Walker. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; a son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Judi McCright of Delhi; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Ron Doyl of Walker; his mother, Frances McCright of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Orvie McCright of Coggon; four grandchildren, Robyn McCright of Iowa City, Scott McCright and wife, Debbie, of Milton, Fla., Darsi Doyl of Benbrook, Texas, and Douglas Doyl of Cedar Rapids; his mother-in-law, Rosalee Gardner; and sister-in-law, Helen Gardner. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agatha; and his father, Ashley McCright. Born the son of Ashley and Frances Oldridge McCright on Feb. 12, 1915, in Troy Mills, he married Agatha Jones on May 13, 1936, in Nashua. She died Dec. 4, 1981. On Dec. 30, 1982 , in Walker, he married Margaret Gardner Massman. After graduation from Troy Mills High School in 1932, he attended the University of Iowa until 1934. He returned to Walker to start his business career as a salesman for the Fisher Ford Garage, and in 1936, bought the garage. In 1940, he established H.W. McCright Insurance Agency and when his son, Rex, joined the business in 1957, the name was changed to H.W. McCright & Son. In 1963, when his son-in-law, Ron Doyl joined the agency, it became The McCright Agency Inc. Mr. McCright was a member of Walker United Methodist Church, served as mayor of Walker for 13 years, was a charter member and longtime secretary of Walker Lions Club, was longtime president and board member of Walker Consolidated School, and was instrumental in the consolidation of North Linn Community School District. He was a 50-year Mason, first with Rob Morris Lodge AF&AM of Walker and later Mecca Lodge No. 523 AF&AM of Coggon. He served with the Army during World War II. The Rev. Mike Townsley will officiate. A memorial fund has been established.
