He was a member of the 97th Bomber Group, and an avid hiker, gardener and loved all animals. Ed retired from Mead Corporation after 28 years of service and worked 13 years at A&S Building Systems and First Tennessee Bank as a guard.
He was preceded in death by his son, Boyd Anthony (Tony) Lane; parents, Nessie and Nellie Ballard; five brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Roena Ballard; granddaughter, Sarah Clark and fiancé Brent Sadler; great grandson, Peyton Clark; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at 1:15 p.m., Monday, at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, 2200 Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920 for a 1:30 p.m. honorary military service. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 6th, at 7:00 p.m. at West Congregation of Jehovah's Witness, at 1403 Andes Road, with Minister Dan Hostetler officiating. An honorary orchard is being created in Ed's memory. Apple and other fruit trees would be appreciated in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Weaver Funeral Home.
