Sara Ann Gilbert, 71, of Harvard, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at home with her family and friends after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Schenectady, N.Y., to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Unwin. She married Roger Gilbert on Aug. 6, 1960, in Kenosha, Wis. She was employed as a teacher/counselor by Beaver Dam, Milton and Wilmot, Wis., and by Loves Park, Harvard and Richmond schools. She graduated from Mary D. Bardford High School in Kenosha, Wis., Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., and did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Western Illinois University in Macomb, and others. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Harvard and the McHenry County Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her husband; her children, Linda (Craig) Henderson of Muskego, Wis., Jeff of Walworth, Wis., Cynthia Hayden of Harvard, and Lora Gilbert and June Glasgow, both of Loves Park; a sister, Dorothy (Kermit) Hovey of Kenosha, Wis.; a brother, Kenneth (Joan) Unwin of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Jim (Kay) Gilbert of Nevada City, Calif.; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan and Taylor Henderson of Muskego, and Justine and Brendan Gilbert of Harvard; and many nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at First Presbyterian Church, 7100 Harvard Hills Road, Harvard. The Rev. Jeff Borgeson, pastor, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
