Actor. His best known acting role was as'Stuart Bailey' in the television series "77 Sunset Strip" (1958 to 1964), as well as for the role of 'Inspector Lewis Erskine' in the television series "The F.B.I." (1965 to 1974). Born into a Jewish family, he was the son of concert violinist Efrem Zimbalist, his mother Alma Gluck was an opera singer. Efrem Jr. developed an interest in the theater at an early age and studied at the New York Neighborhood Playhouse and the Yale School of Drama. While serving with the United States Army during World War II, he was severely wounded at Huertgen Forest and received a Purple Heart. Upon his return home, he appeared regularly on Broadway, however he left the entertainment industry for a period following the sudden death of his first wife in 1950. During the 1950s, he began to appear in both TV and films. During the 1990s, he became associated with several animated super hero TV series including "Batman" and "Spider-Man". He was the father of actress Stephanie Zimbalist.
