Retired CMDR Larry C. Wiggins Sr of Canyon Lake, passed away on Sunday, April 27th, 2014 in League City, TX. He was born on December 19th, 1933 in Winnsboro, LA. He was the second of five children born to Frank Curtis and Clara Evelyn(Stapp) Wiggins.
The Wiggins family eventually moved to Houston and later Galena Park. Larry would attend Galena Park HS where he graduated in 1952 and met his future wife, Genie Fuller. Larry was an energetic young man and lettered in baseball and basketball. Larry was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Galena Park where he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He and Genie were married there on April, 9th, 1955.
Larry was born to be a Naval Aviator and served his country in many ways. His flying career spanned from the Cuban Missile Crisis to Vietnam. In between he spent many cruises in the Mediterranean performing exercises and flying missions in Lebanon. He would also finish his bachelor's degree at the University of Houston in 1969. As he and Genie traveled they always made sure their home was open to accommodate friends and family anxious to see new sites. No matter where their travels took them they were always quick to find a church home and teach youth bible classes. Military retirement after 20 years in 1975 brought them to Pasadena, Texas where they settled in and became active members of the First Baptist Church in Pasadena. Larry would serve as deacon, SS teacher and committee leader for projects too numerous to mention.
Larry taught JROTC at Sam Rayburn HS; worked for Champion Paper Mill and finished his professional career teaching auto-body shop at San Jacinto College. He retired in 1991 to Canyon Lake and continued his life-long pursuit of restoring antique automobiles and traveling. Grandchildren started to multiply and he spent many a weekend enjoying their company and spoiling them rotten. He leaves behind many friends at the lake.
Larry was a warm and giving man who loved his family, friends, classic automobiles and piddling.
Larry is survived by his children Curt, Kim and Kevin; son-in-law Wayne; daughters-in-law Pam and Lezli; grandchildren Christi (spouse Eric Woods), Brandon, Keleigh (spouse Thomas Warnke), Greg, Katie, Kylie, Ian and Jace; great grandchildren Ethan and Scarlett; brother Bryan (spouse Brenda); brother-in-law Phil McCann; sisters-in-law Mary Wiggins and Betty Austin (spouse Ronnie); and countless other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends. He is pre-deceased by his loving wifeof 56 years; his parents; brothers Arlen ("Sonny") and Earl; sister Mignonne and sister-in-law Mary Katherine.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 at South Main Baptist Church (4300 E Sam Houston Pkwy S)in Pasadena, Texas. A reception will be held immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation in Larry's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Donations can be made through the www.lls.org website directly.
