Mrs. Lena Victoria Smith Culler, 90, formerly of Statesville died Friday, May 4, 2001, in Statesville. She was born Nov. 24, 1910, in Patrick County, Va. and was the daughter of the late Pinkney S. Smith and Victoria Culler Smith. She was married to the late Rev. Herbert Hampton Culler, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1997. Mrs. Culler was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Statesville.
Mrs. Culler is survived by a son, Dr. O. Leighton Culler of Mocksville; five daughters, Mrs. June Lail and Mrs. Lorraine Lowry of Winston-Salem, Ms. Rachel Culler of Salisbury, Mrs. [Charles "Bud] (Mickey) Walters of Charlotte and Mrs. [Jerry Sale Staley] (Rosa) Burwell of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Fred (Maybelle) Smith of Ararat, Va.; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Culler was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Hanner and Mrs. Violet Morrison; two sons, Herbert Eric Culler and Arthur Newton Culler; and a grandson, Gregory Culler. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Oakland Presbyterian Church in Statesville with the Rev. Steve Snipes officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral hour at the church. Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Culler.
