BANGOR - Susan R. Paul, age 76, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 30th, 2014. She was born on February 24, 1938 in Bangor, the daughter of Jack Rapaport and Edna (Cohen) Rapaport. A rare and true beauty, inside and out, Susan Paul touched the lives of all who met her with her natural charm, kindness, wisdom, sense of humor and grace. She had an understanding of what was most important. She loved the simple things in life, going to the ocean, good conversation with friends and being with her family. She was treasured by her husband and adored by her daughter and son. Susan was an extra special person, filled with youth, full of life and full of laughter. "She personified the word GOOD and was loved by everyone."
She grew up in Bangor and was graduated from Bangor High School in 1956 and was thought of as being one of the most beautiful girls in her class. She furthered her education at LaSalle Junior College where she was graduated in 1958 and had planned to continue her education, but, instead met her future husband and she and Irving Paul were married on June 28, 1959, a loving marriage of 54 years. Susan spent her youthful years in East Eddington Pond where her parents had a summer cottage. In her teens, she worked for her father at Rapaport Auto and later was employed by Day's Jewelry for a short period of time. Susan was actively involved with Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered at the gift shop at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue and Beth Israel Sisterhood. Susan also participated in many charity fashion shows. Susan had many friends, continued her relationship with some of her classmates and loved having lunch with her friends to reminisce, go shopping and have fun.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Irving Paul; her loving son, Dr. Stephen Paul, DDS, and his wife Annette Paul; her adoring daughter, Sharyn Paul Brusie and her husband Kevin Brusie and two step daughters, Allison Brusie and Natalie Brusie. She is also survived by her brother James Rapaport and his wife Dr. Wendy Satin Rapaport, PhD; her nephews Bruce Rapaport and his wife Teri Rapaport and Dean Rapaport and his wife Jennifer Rapaport; a grandniece Chelsi Rapaport; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was also very close with her late sister-in-law, Gail Rapaport. She faced her recent health challenges with a great deal of dignity and was an inspiration to all around her. The family is very grateful for the love and devotion of Sue's caregivers – Carol, Jessi, Karen, Marcia, Cheryl and Sam.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, Center Street, Bangor with Rabbi Darah R. Lerner officiating. Interment will be in the Beth Israel Cemetery, Bangor. (Bangor Daily News 5/2/2014)
