Rev. Velma H. (Hertel) Manuel, age 93, of Versailles, Indiana, entered this life on July 6, 1918, in Dixon, Ohio, the daughter of Clifford Alfred & Imogene (Plumley) Hertel, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, & was a 1936 graduate of Central High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Velma was a graduate of the Union Bible Seminary in Westfield, Indiana. Velma was united in marriage on February 16, 1951, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Roy H. Manuel. Roy & Velma had enjoyed over 50 years of marriage together until his death on March 16, 2001. Velma was the former pastor at the East Enterprise Pilgrim Holiness Church & later the East Enterprise Wesleyan Church from 1951-1973. She was the pastor of the Versailles Wesleyan Church from 1973-1981, where she was a member for 39 years. After her retirement Velma remained active in Ministry, serving in an Evangelist position. Velma & Roy sang & preached for many funerals in Switzerland County & surrounding Communities. Roy & Velma will always be remembered for their love of serving the Lord & lending a helping hand when someone or a family was in need. Velma died at 5:15 pm Monday April 30, 2012, at the Manderly Health Care in Osgood, Indiana.
Velma will be lovingly remembered by her brother. Rev. James William Hertel & his wife: Martha of Greenwood, Indiana; her nephew who cared for her: Rev. James Wesley Hertel & his wife: Pat of Greenwood, IN; numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Roy H. Manuel; her parents: Clifford Alfred & Imogene (Plumley) Hertel; her sister: Mildred Meyer; her brothers: Dale Hertel & Alfred Hertel.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11:00 AM, by Rev. James Wesley Hertel & Rev. John Hundley at the Vevay Cemetery, 800 East Main Street Vevay, Indiana.
