She was a 1943 graduate of New Freedom High School. Mrs. Houston worked for 39 years for the former American Insulator Company in New Freedom, and then worked for five years for Crescent Industries in New Freedom before retiring in 1987. She was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Manchester and its Double Ring Sunday School Class. She enjoyed Bible Studies, continuing her studies even after moving to Normandie Ridge. Mrs. Houston truly cared about family - both her own, as well as the families of others. She was known throughout the Normandie Ridge community for truly caring.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara L. Heilman and her husband, Tim of Manchester; and a sister, Mildred Klineyoung of York. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 4360 Board Road, Manchester, with her Pastor, the Rev. Chuck Sprenkle, officiating, assisted by The Rev. Darby Nace. Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. Friday at the church, with a second visitation held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, in the Chapel at Normandie Ridge.
Private burial will be in Stewartstown Cemetery. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 S. Main St., Manchester, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1500 Paxton St., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17104.
