An excerpt from The Glens Falls Post Star from 2/18/1958:
"George M. Alexander, 93, of 42 Grove Ave., well-known veteran contractor and builder, died suddenly yesterday at his home. Mr. Alexander was born May 17, 1864, at Fort Ann, the son of the late Cochran Alexander and Ruth Workman Alexander. He came to Glens Falls more than 60 years ago, and his contribution to the growth and development of this city, reflected in the general appearance of many of the community's business buildings and homes, has been a major one. While new construction has been an important part of his work, the veteran contractor has also rebuilt a large part of this city."
He was a member of Senate Lodge 456, F. & A. M. for 60 years, a member of the Modern Woodsmen and attended Christ Church, Methodist.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Tirzah Gould and Miss Helen Alexander, both of Watervliet, four sons, Ward M. Alexander of Irvington, N.J., Darwin W. Alexander of Slingerlands, R. Bruce Alexander and William K. Alexander, both of Glens Falls; 10 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Miss Ida Alexander of Glens Falls, several nieces and nephews.
