Lora Nelson, 85, was born June 22,1928 in Lamesa, TX, and passed away peacefully Thursday, April 24, 2014 surrounded by her family and loving thoughts. Lora attended grade school in Union, TX, and worked on the family farm along with her 10 siblings. She was musically talented, and in her younger years enjoyed playing all kinds of instruments, performing for family and friends in a bluegrass band alongside her twin sister, Flora. Basketball and softball were two of her favorite sports, and she played them until her body no longer allowed her to do so. After moving to Lubbock in 1946, she kick-started her future in the medical field, becoming a licensed vocational nurse at Lubbock Memorial Hospital in 1952. She worked for several medical facilities during her nursing career, including the Texas Department of Corrections. She retired in 1994, spending her last 20 years relaxing, enjoying friends and family, and raising a little heck from time to time. Survivors include her brother, William Nelson, sister, Sue Wiley, as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert Leo and Viola Nelson, as well as three sisters and five brothers.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Lora's many constant friends that remained by her side throughout the years, especially Dorothy Stone and members of the Sunset Church of Christ.
