PORTER BEACH, IN -- Betty Eason, age 87, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Porter Regional Hospital. She was born January 14, 1926 in Gresham, WI to her parents: Dewey and Mabel E. (Luecke) Schmidt. Mabel passed away when the children were young and her father remarried Margret Meyer. Betty is survived by son, James (Julie) of Boca Raton, FL; daughter, Laurie Hughes (Joel) of Haiku, Maui, HI; five grandchildren; brother, Jack Schmidt; and sister, Yvonne Schmidt Hummer.
Betty was the oldest of three children. She went to high school in Shawano, WI and attended Valparaiso University during WWII. It was at Valparaiso University that she met her husband, James Seth Eason, deceased June 16, 2010, where he obtained his degree. Betty and Jim were married on September 5, 1948. Betty obtained a degree in education and taught school in Morgan Township. She was a 70 year resident of Valparaiso, IN and a lifelong member of the Valparaiso Country Club. Betty was an avid golfer in her earlier years and was a very skilled and enthusiastic bridge player her entire life. She was active in her earlier years in the IOTA chapter of Tri Kappa, a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Valparaiso, and also attended Faith Lutheran Church in Valparaiso.
Betty will be remembered as a loving, extremely lively mother and teacher. She held so many wonderful stories in her mind and was amazing in her ability to tell the history of so many friends and family.
Betty was an extremely devoted mother and housewife and will be dearly missed by so many who were touched by this beautiful woman.
Private burial of cremains were held. Memorials should be sent to the church of your choice. Dykes Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of arrangements.
