He was born Aug. 23, 1898 at Clinton, a son of Jay W. and Ollie Mae (Blue) Bell. He married Ethel C. Wilson on Oct. 17, 1921 at St. Louis. She died on April 3, 1973.
Survivors include a son, Arthur M. Bell Jr. of Clinton; two daughters, Charlotte Delong of Springfield, Mo., and Marilyn Mae Travers of Bloomington; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bell served in Company F of the 138th Infantry, 35th Division in the U. S. Army in France during World War I. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers 965 in Springfield and worked as a heavy equipment operator most of his life. Mr. Bell was a member of the First Christian Church, Clinton.
