Mrs. Mildred Ward, 70, 303 Pine St., a lifelong resident of Edwardsville, died Thursday in St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton.
She was the wife of the late Harry Ward.
She was born May 25, 1899, in Edwardsville.
Mrs. Ward was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Birdie Johnson Penelton.
She is survived by two sons, Eugene Ward, Alton, and Sgt. James Ward, Wurstsmith Air Force Base, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Albert (Rita) Beamon, Edwardsville, Bonnie Ward and Mrs. Lois Harrison, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. Fannie Ward, Mrs. George (Dora) Scott, Mrs. Emmett (Willie Maye) Comer, Mrs. Dymple Mitchell, all of Edwardsville, and Mrs. Flavia Weatherspoon, Zanesville, Ohio, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, besides her husband and parents.
She was a member of the Wesley Chapel AME Church, Edwardsville.
Friends may call at the Pletcher Funeral Home in Edwardsville after 7 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral services will be in the Wesley Chapel AME Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. William Lawton officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harry Penelton, Clem Penelton, Bill Penelton, Richard Penelton, Ronnie Penelton and Bill Dean.
