First Lieutenant Theron Seward Winship, from Pierpont, Ohio, in September of 1861, entered the 29th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company E. The unit began in Jefferson, Ohio by Congressman Joshua Giddings. His commanding officer recommended him for Quartermaster, but he declined because the troops serving under him took issue and complained that he was leaving. In April 1862 he was made the Regimental Adjutant. His unit was at Antietam, but were held in reserve. In January 1863 he resigned his commission.[1][2] Lampson Wright also states that Theron S. Winship was in service and hired a substitute during the Civil War.[3] Later in life Theron was the bank president of the Conneaut, Ohio Mutual Loan Association.

His farm was located on Graham Road, east of Rt. 7. Later in life Theron was the bank president of the Conneaut, Ohio Mutual Loan Association.

In Pierpont, Ohio is Winship Ave., it is in the center of the town, it runs east from Rt. 7, turns left and ends by the Fire Dept., on Rt. 167. It was formerly known as Weigh Alley, for the cheese factory located there.
