Mrs. John Hummel, who died at her home near Wallaceton on September 20th, was buried at Summit Hill on September 22nd, Rev. Thompson of the United Brethren church, officiating. Charlotte Smeal was born at Palestine January 2, 1860, and after her marriage to John Hummel made her home near Wallaceton.
Surviving, besides her husband, is one son and the following daughters: Agnes, wife of Alex Quick, of Wallaceton; Jesse E., of Salem; Blanche, wife of Alvin Lindberg, of Erie; Virgie, wife of Owen Kramer, of Center Hill; Bessie, wife of John Quick, of Osceola Mills, Miss Chloe, of Madera, and Emma wife of Archie Quick of Graham. Two brothers and two sister also survive: John Smeal, of Wallaceton; Elle of Palestine; Mrs. James Rothrock, and Mrs. Curtin Rothrock, of Morrisdale.

Charlotte's full name was Lenetta Charlotte Smeal Hummel. Her mother was Elizabeth Hockenberry (1826-1899, FAG 81118627). This relationship is documented on 1870 and 1880 census reports, which also include the names of her surviving siblings as listed in her obituary. While Charlotte's death certificate lists Elizabeth as mother; it incorrectly lists her name as Rebecca rather than Lenetta.
