Pvt. Charles Barfield served with Company G, “Bainbridge Independents,” 1st (Ramsey’s) Georgia Infantry. He joined the company from Decatur County, Ga., enlisting there on March 18, 1861. He was born about 1844, the son of Alexander and Margaret Barfield, and died of disease on Aug. 12, 1861 at the age of 17.
This Confederate Cemetery is located across the street from the Highland Medical Center on route 220 south. There is only one marked grave (stone placed there in the 1890's) The remaining graves are distinguished by the sunken ground for each grave and can only be seen when the field is mowed.
