Amos Kendig was born in Pennsylvania abt 1831. Sometime later he relocated to Illinois. He met and married his first wife, Rachel Bundy on October 7, 1858 in Stephenson county Illinois and they lived in Cherry Grove, Carroll county, Illinois. They had three children, Sarah Ann Kendig born in 1859, Charles E Kendig born 1861 in Cherry Grove, and Lucy Kendig born 1863 in Cherry Grove. Abt 1868 Rachel died probably from typhoid fever..
Then Amos remarried to Melissa Angeline Straw from Indiana
on August 24, 1869.He and Melissa had 9 children. They moved to Iowa and Missouri. Amos was in the Civil War of 1860-1865.
Sometime later Amos and Melissa moved to NW Arkansas and lived there till his death on July 26, 1894. Melissa lived until 1937. Amos is reportedly buried on the farm where they lived (the Ransom farm in Oak Grove area of Crawford county, Arkansas.) Two of his daughters, Malissa and Daisy are also buried beside him on the farm. Melissa, the wife, was buried in the Baxter ceme in Kibler, Crawford county, Ar.
