John Awbrey was the son of John Awbrey and Jane Johnstone/Johnston, and seems to have been born between 1680 and 1682. He married Hannah Turner in 1709 (daughter of Thomas Tanner and Mary Atwell).

His father John Aubrey or Awbrey was born in 1626 in Abercynfrig, Brecon, Wales and his mother Jane Johnstone,
was born in Virginia.

John Aubrey owned 140 acres in Westmoreland beside the properties of Henry Rock and Isaac Allerton. These were land grants issued by the agents of the Fairfax Proprietary beginning in 1690.

John Awbrey also had 86 acres in the Northern Neck Grants in Prince William County on the Potomack River side about four miles below the Great and Lower Falls and contiguous with the land of William Strutfield and Thomas Owsley.

His will was dated between 22 Feb - 19 Dec. 1726 (Westmoreland County Wills Book VIII).
