REV, NEWTON SHIREY DIES AT HOME FOR AGED HERE
The Rev. Newton D. Shirley died at the Methodist Home for the Aged last night. The Rev. Mr. Shirley and his wife entered the Home April 25, 1941. Mrs. Shirley passing away July 14, 1950.
He was born April 6, 1869 in Clearfield County, the son of Aaron and Helen Leonard Shirley.
From 1930 to 1941 he served as a Supply Pastor in the Central Pennsylvania Annual Conference of the Methodist Church, serving at Shawville, Glen Campbell, New Millport and Karthaus. He retired in 1941.
He is survived by a brother, C. V. Shirley, Clearfield and four grandchildren, Harold Thompson, Va.; John Thompson, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Mary Nearhoof, State College; and Miss Helen Thompson, New York City.
Brief funeral services will be held at the Home on Friday morning at 11 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Harry C. Stenger, superintendent, assisted by the Rev. Allen C. Shue of York and the Rev. D. Perry Bucke of Tyrone. The body will be taken to the Methodist Church at Curwensville where services will be held at 2 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Ezra Parks, pastor of the Methodist Church at Curwensville. Interment will be made in the Curwensville cemetery. Friends will be received at the Glass Funeral home tomorrow evening.
