Actor. A regular face on British television and film, his unusual face resigned him to mostly playing sneaky, underhanded characters. His most notable performance in his native Britain was that of Dylan Thomas in the film "Dylan". he had a round cherubic face, small eyes and a squeaky voice. When he made his first of three appearances on television's "The Avengers" his character was appropriately credited as "Strange Young Man". He appeared in several well known films such as Roman Polanski's "The Fearless Vampire Killers" and "Zulu Dawn". His most famous performance was in a small but memorable supporting role in Steven Spielberg's "Raiders of the Lost Ark" as the black-coated Nazi Gestapo torturer. He followed that performance with being typecast in smaller roles playing villains in films like "Firefox", "Red Sonja" and the forgettable "Sky Bandits". He did play less villainous roles in films like "Making the Grade" and "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension" and Milos Foreman's "Valmont". He returned to the Indiana Jones series with a small uncredited cameo in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade".

Also known for playing the baby-eating Bishop of Bath and Wells in the second series of Blackadder
