Elizabeth Smith Allen was born in Linkinhorne, Cornwall, England May 14 1860. She was the daughter of John and Mary Northey Smith. Wife of Richard John Allen Sr. She immigrated to the US in 1876 when she was 16 and stayed with her uncle, Rev. Francis Northey. She married Richard John Allen in 1878 who was also a Cornish immigrant. Together they had 11 children. She raised her family in Houtzdale and South Fork, Cambria Co., PA. She later moved to Detroit, MI where she died March 11, 1952, a long way from a small village in Cornwall.

The first photo was taken in 1920 when she was about 60 yrs. The second photo is of Elizabeth and her children not long before she died.

91, Detroit, Mich., formerly of South Fork, died Mar. 11, 1952 at the home of her son, Melvin, in Detroit. Born may 14, 1860, in Cornwall, England. Was widow of Richard Allen, who died jan. 28, 1919. Survived by these children: Mrs. Lillie Hall, Detroit; Richard Allen, Mineral Point R.D. 1; Mrs. Pearl McNertney and William Allen, both of South Fork; Oliver Allen, Mrs. Alma Logan, Melvin, mentioned, and Albert Allen, all of Detroit. 39 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Sister of Mrs. Grace Willis(?), Cardiff, Wales. Preceded in death by two daughters and a son. Friends received at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Friday. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

FORMER SOUTH FORK WOMAN DIES AT 91
South Fork -- Mrs. Elizabeth Allen, 91, a former resident of South Fork, died yesterday at the home of her son, Melvin Allen in Detroit, Mich. A native of England, she was the widow of the late Richard Allen, who died in 1919.
Mrs. Allen leaves 110 descendants--8 children, 39 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, William Allen Jr. of South Fork was born Jan. 28, 1919, the day his grandfather died. Yesterday a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Allen on the day the former's grandmother died.
