Alvin was born a twin son of Allen Kibbe and Etta (Soper, Kibbe) Babbitt. His family was living on the Kibbe Farm in Somers Connecticut, when he was born. He spent his early youth there with his 2 sisters and twin brother Calvin. When he was about 7 years old his father died. His mother remarried, sold the farm, and moved to Worcester, Ma. Alvin finished public school there and met his sweetheart, Dorothy E. Berl, known as Betty. Alvin was working at the Wright Auto Garage as a mechanic, before the war. He and Betty were married before he went off to war. Alvin served in The Ordinance Division of The U.S. Army in Atlanta Ga., and as an Infantryman overseas. Betty remained at their home at 12 Newport St. during that time. Alvin returned from the war in 1945, to his wife and son Alvin Jr. The family soon settled in the Manchaug / Dougas, Ma. area where they would raise their family. They had a total of 5 children. Alvin worked as an auto mechanic until he started his own business, Kibbe Chimney Service. He later transferred the business to his son, Alvin Jr. Betty's Multiple Sclerosis condition worsened, and she entered a nursing home in the 1970s. After Betty's death in about 1997, Alvin lived with a friend until his death in 1998. Alvin and Betty are buried together. Alvin was a very kind and gentle soul, with a great sense of humor. He is sorely missed.
