William was in a boys school in Birkenhead, England. He and a class mate decided to run away and come to America. They stowed away on a ship and jumped ship just before it docked and swam ashore off of the coast of Delaware. A family (named Potter) took them in for a while and from there on he lived in Delaware, married my ggrandmother, Elizabeth Walls b. 1867 d. Aug 1899, in Nov 1885. William became a sea captain and boated between Philadelphia, PA and Frederica, Delaware. When my ggrandmother died, shortly after giving birth to their 8th child, the surviving children were raised by her sisters and brothers. I think William finally settled (probably due to age) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, until his death, which at this time is unknown.

I have found a record that I believe to be him in the 1930 census in Philly. My closest guess on his birth date is 1865, because a record has been located, in England that he was baptized at the St. John Church in April 1865. I am surmising that he died after 1930, because he is on the 1930 census, but not on the 1940 census.

According to William, his mother was a teacher and an opera singer. No mention of his father.

In the event that anyone has any information on this person or his family, please contact me by leaving a message on this site. Thank you.
